Who I Am

I’m a Toronto-based graphic artist who’s been bopping around the Canadian film industry since 2015 in various roles. I had to do a fair amount of trial and error to find out where I wanted to be. I’m self taught; I went to school for English/Cultural Studies because my teen self thought it would be cool to be a journalist when she was forced to choose a career track. That turned into doing a post-grad in TV Writing and Producing which turned into bumming around doing script reading, working as an office PA, doing a little work as a producer’s assistant, and even working in post for a little bit.

When I started my Art Department journey I took a few months off to teach myself the necessary software requirements and get myself familiar with design. Luckily I’d been making graphics as a hobby for years and I’ve always been a little obsessed with advertising. And now I’ve been at that for about five years (I don’t count the pandemic), or should it be four (do we count the strike?), and I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing people with incredible creative visions. I love my job. I’m happy as a 1AR or 2AR - I understand that as proficient as I might become, I don’t know everything and I don’t resent the opportunity to learn from someone who’s been at this longer than me and/or is formally educated in art.

In the future I hope to start to familiarize myself with motion graphics, as I’d like to become a bit more of a multi-hyphenate. Eventually, I want to become a production designer once the opportunity presents itself. I like long walks on the beach and complaining about the Adobe subscription model.
